A Mini Garden Inspiration
We were visiting my brother and his partner R & M yesterday and took a peek at their very compact garden. They rent a lovely home in Hayward and decided to grow a few veggies.
In a sunny 8 foot by 3 foot spot they planted: 6 tomatoes, 12 thai basil, 6 thai chili peppers, 1 habanero, 1 jalapeno and 2 romano bean plants. Wow, that’s a lot of heat. Too many chili’s to count – probably hundreds of searing capsicum capsules. The scoville meter is on fire!
In a 4 foot by 3 foot spot they planted 2 bell peppers and a couple of slicing cucumbers.
The only soil prep was digging in 1 bag of steer manure.
M reports there is more than enough for the 2 of them and share much of their harvest.
The garden bug has bit and they plan on expanding with mobile pots on the concrete patio next season.
What inspiration! They are both very busy professionals who carved out
a little space
and a little time.
The key is that they kept their garden small and manageable.
For them, gardening is important as it contributes to their healthy diet…and there is the pride as they showed off what they have accomplished in their little patch in the back 0.40
